Port Master René de Vries receives VRC Cargadoor Medal
Rotterdam Port Master René de Vries has won the VRC Cargadoor Medal of 2022. During the award ceremony, the VRC particularly praised De Vries’ efforts to ensure shipping continued as smoothly as possible during the COVID-19 period, despite occasional cases of infection among ship crews.
“Under the leadership of René de Vries, the port of Rotterdam is always easily and safely accessible for international shipping,” the Marco Tak of the VRC explains.
Unlike the surrounding ports, the port of Rotterdam remained accessible to vessels with infected crew members on board. As a result, the crew members in question could be treated in medical centers. René de Vries was driving a force behind the vaccination program for international seafarers. He is also closely involved with various port welfare agencies.
The medal was presented during the annual VRC dinner. There, Director Marco Tak and Chairman Kees Groeneveld further presented a cheque for €100,000 on behalf of the VRC to the new Port Experience Centre under construction. The successor to Futureland will rise on the Maasvlakte in 2024.
Visitors are shown everything related to the port in various spaces. This center aims to maintain and increase support for the existence of the port of Rotterdam among relevant target groups and stakeholdes.
